Exploring the Brown Brush was inspired by the Australian landscape and its incredible ability to regenerate. Bushfires can completely transform a place, but from that destruction comes new growth.
The painting came from a bushwalk south of Angourie, where I discovered that familiar paths I had walked before had completely disappeared after a fire. The landscape had changed, but the walk was still beautiful. The work explores that feeling of moving through a landscape that has been destroyed, changed and is beginning to grow again.
